Project Profile

Shared Use Path Phase 2

Stemming from the City of Van Alstyne’s master hike and bike trail plan, MPCE managed and designed Phases 1 and 2 of the City’s 12’ wide Shared Use Path. Totaling 5190 linear feet, these phases are located within a bar ditch section of TXDOT right-of-way resulting in two TXDOT culvert extensions. Phase 1 connects Van Alstyne Jr. High with Van Alstyne Middle School and Sanford Elementary, and Phase 2 connects Partin Elementary to Forrest Moore Park.

MPCE managed the completion of an environmental assessment and assisted the city in obtaining funds from the Transportation Alternative Funding program (through the Federal Highway Administration) managed by TXDOT for all phases. MPCE was the primary contact for the projects, scheduled bi-monthly progress meetings with TXDOT and coordinated the required federal paperwork for specifications and bidding contracts.

MPCE also prepared the City’s funding applications for Phases 3-5. Phase 3 is currently under construction, Phase 4 has been funded and is currently under design, and Phase 5’s funding application is currently under consideration.
